How Florida Home Network scores contractors (and what a score is not)
Learn how Florida Home Network builds contractor scores from DBPR licenses, Sunbiz records and DFS workers compensation data, plus the limits of those scores for homeowners.

Every company on Florida Home Network gets a Rank Score from 0 to 100. The score is built automatically from public records. No company can pay for a higher score, and paid placements are always labeled Sponsor and kept out of rankings. This guide explains what goes into the score, what it does not measure, and how a business owner can fix a record that looks wrong. The full technical write-up lives on How scores work.
Where the data comes from
The score uses only official Florida records:
- License records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), the same data behind the state's Verify a License search.
- Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) discipline reports published by DBPR.
- Business entity records from the Florida Division of Corporations on Sunbiz.
- Workers' compensation coverage matched against Florida Department of Financial Services records. Florida law generally requires construction employers with one or more employees to carry coverage (s. 440.02, F.S.).
Florida Home Network lists 98,541 businesses built from DBPR license and Sunbiz records as of October 15, 2026.
The seven inputs
| Input | Points | What earns full credit |
|---|---|---|
| Active state license | 30 | A current DBPR license on record for the trade |
| Track record | 25 | Years since the license or business was first established, counted continuously and capped at 20 years |
| Workers' comp | 15 | An active policy matched by name and location in DFS records |
| Business entity | 10 | An active Sunbiz entity |
| Clean record | 10 | No CILB disciplinary final order on the company's construction licenses in the last 5 fiscal years |
| License breadth | 5 | Several distinct active Florida license classes |
| Certified license | 5 | A statewide Certified license, which requires passing the state exam |
Missing data is neutral, not a penalty
Public records are incomplete. When a record is missing (for example, a workers' comp policy we could not match, or a trade that is not licensed at the state level), that input gets half credit. A missing record never pulls a company to the bottom, and we never display a negative license result on a profile.
Our workers' comp match is partial today. It uses exact name and location against the DFS data we have, so many insured companies simply show no match yet. That gives them neutral credit, not a penalty.
What a score is not
A Rank Score is a summary of public records on the date we checked them. It is not a review, an endorsement, or a judgment of anyone's workmanship, pricing or customer service. A newer company with an active license can be an excellent choice. Before you hire, still confirm the license on the official DBPR site, ask for current insurance certificates, and get a written contract.
Payment never changes the score
Rankings are never sold. Companies can claim a free profile, and some optional extras are paid, but none of that touches the score, the organic order of a list, or who appears in a match. Any paid placement is labeled Sponsor.
Scores update on their own
We refresh DBPR license and CILB discipline data weekly and Sunbiz filings daily. When a license is renewed, a class is added or an entity becomes active again, the score follows automatically.
Owners: how to fix a record
If something on your profile is wrong, the fastest fix is usually at the source: update your license record with DBPR or your filing on Sunbiz, and we pick up the change on the next refresh. If our match itself is wrong (for example, the wrong license tied to your company), report a correction and we will review it. You can also claim your profile for free from the profile page.

Common questions
Can a company pay for a higher Rank Score?
No. Payment never affects a score, the organic order of a list, or match results. Paid placements are labeled Sponsor and kept separate from rankings.
What happens if a record is missing?
That input gets half credit. Missing data is treated as neutral, not as a penalty, and we never show a negative license result on a profile.
Is a Rank Score a review of the company's work?
No. It summarizes public records on the date we checked them. It does not measure workmanship, pricing or customer service.
How often do scores update?
DBPR license and CILB discipline data refresh weekly and Sunbiz filings refresh daily, so scores follow changes to those records automatically.
How does a business owner fix a wrong record?
Update the record at the source (DBPR or Sunbiz) and it flows through on the next refresh. If our match is wrong, use the corrections page and we will review it.
